Luis Varela-Rico, a Las Vegas-based sculptor renowned for his large-scale metal works, held his first solo exhibition titled Peso Neto in the Fall of 2024 at the Nuwu Art Gallery + Community Center at 1331 S. Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with IndigenousAF and curated by Fawn Douglas.

Peso Neto, meaning "net weight" in Spanish, featured monumental metal sculptures, some weighing up to a ton. The works delved into heritage, labor, and decolonization themes, reflecting Varela-Rico's Mexican roots and his background as an elevator mechanic. He used his technical skills to create intricate, large-scale pieces resonating with cultural symbolism.

The exhibition ran through October 26, 2024, and included an artist talk where Varela-Rico discussed his creative process and the significance of his work. For more information on his exhibitions and public art projects, you can visit his official website at luisvarelarico.com.
